We were originally established as part of the provisional District Program authorized for a 3 year trial by the 1975 Convention. At the conclusion of the trial period, the program was made permanent by the 1978 Convention. Since 1975, District 7 has covered the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and all of Ohio, and is comprised all collegiate and alumni chapters contained therein.
MI-A through MI-Z and OH-A through OH-L predate the District and were incorporated into it in 1975. Since that time, the District has added eight collegiate chapters: MI-H (1978), MI-Q (1979), MI-I (1982), MI-K (1989), OH-M (1990), OH-N (2001), MI-L (2004), & OH-X (2008). District 7 has also added one alumni chapter: AAAAC (2013) and re-activated four others: ONCAC (1992), SEMIAC (2001), DAYAC (2012/2013), & CMAC (2024). Our district has the distinction of including the second collegiate chapter ever established (MI-A), and two ex-Sigma Tau chapters (OH-K & OH-L) that joined Tau Beta Pi in 1974 as part of the merger of the two societies.
Each spring, the District 7 Team organizes the District Conference at a host chapter. The host is selected at the previous year’s Conference by the delegates in attendance, with the stipulation that we aim to alternate states each year. Local alumni chapters typically provide their support as co-host of the event. A table of recent and upcoming Conferences is included below.
